Woman left devastated after 50kg python got into her home and ate her dog

A 'tannie' from Louis Trichardt in Limpopo was heartbroken following a huge snake eating her dog, after slithering into her home in the early morning hours.
Snake catcher and environmental expert Frikkie Venter posted a picture on Facebook, holding the humongous Python.
According to Venter the snaked found its way into the 60-year-old woman's lounge, which also served as her bedroom, at 3am and ate her dog.
YEN.com.gh gathered the woman resides on a farm, and was aware of the snake, which was usually in the fruit orchards.
Venter said the woman saw the serpent at her front door late Saturday afternoon, which led her to call her dog and close all the doors.
But, News24 reported the lady failed to close her lounge windows. It was believed the snake came in through the window during the night.
"She was suddenly woken up in the early hours of the morning when she heard her dog whining when the snake bit him.", Venter explained.
He added everything happened at such a rapid pace and she could not do anything to save her dog.
"You cannot kill this kind of snake because it is wild and because it’s on the list of protected species," he said.
Venter said he released the 3.5m long snake, which weighed about 50kg, on another farm, far away from humans

All roads in the area have been barricaded by the Military and Police
It took a combined force of Military and Police personnel to quell what would have been a more serious repeat of previous bloody clashes between the Zongo youth of Anhwia and Asante youth all in Kumasi Tafo, mynewsgh.com can report.
The youth groups clashed late last night when the Asante youth allegedly refused to allow the uninvited Zongo youth to participate in a ‘Soloku Night’ event they were organizing, leading to violent clashes in the night in the vicinity.
The two groups dispersed to arm themselves for fresh clashes early this morning. An unspecified number of people have sustained various degrees of injuries while so far about twenty-five (25) youth involved in the disturbances have been arrested by the Joint Military and Police team.
Meanwhile, all roads in the area have been barricaded by the Military and Police as the Chiefs of the area meet the Ashanti Regional Police Command behind closed doors.
Readers will recall similar clashes occurred in February 2016 between the two groups over the ownership of a piece of cemetery land.
The clashes then, said to have been ignited by an order from the Tafo chief for a fence wall which was being constructed around the Muslim section of the Tafo cemetery to be demolished, led to violent clashes between the Zongo youth and the Asante youth, with reports of destruction of property and the death of three people. There was an imposition of a dawn-to-dusk curfew in the entire Tafo area.

Don’t shy away from farming – John Dumelo advices youth

play videoJohn Dumelo owns a three-acre cassava farm in the Eastern Region
Actor cum entrepreneur, John Dumelo, has advised the youth to embrace farming since it is one of the most lucrative jobs in the country.
Making reference to his personal exploits in the farming sector, John Dumelo suggested that the youth should be encouraged to take up farming since it pays. He added that farming though demands a lot of patience pays off in the end considering that it puts money in ones pocket at the end of the day.
The famous actor made this statement during the National Buffer stock programme to feed free SHS students, organized on the premises of the Accra Girls SHS.
“At the end of the day, we have to eat what we grow. And we also have to support local consumption. And that’s the thing I am concentrating on. We should encourage the youth to get into farming. Farming is patience but there is a lot of money in farming. If you look at goat meat for example, in Ghana, every single day, you have about 500 or 600 goats being killed. So if you go into goat farming and you are even killing just 10 goats a day, that’s money for you. That’s money in your pocket”, he outlined.
He added; “Currently, I’m into maize farming. I’m into snail farming. I’m into watermelon and pepper. So I want to deal at the kind of level where people would be able to come and buy from us. I mean it’s sad when you look at certain things in the country when you have people importing pork meat, chicken, so many of these things that we can produce in Ghana and it’s bad”.
However, Dumelo has designs on trumping the feat by making in-roads into crop production and animal husbandry in the near future.
The actor already owns a three-acre cassava farm in the Manya Krobo community in the Eastern Region which he hopes to expand to 10 acres soon.
