Kennedy Ohene Agyapong’s hope of meeting and wishing his party colleague and Vice-President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, a speedy recovery was over the weekend dashed, as he was prevented from seeing him.
The Herald is informed that, Mr. Agyapong, who was in London to attend a memorial service of Joseph Ayi Ankrah, father to Ray Ankrah, the Financial Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the United Kingdom (UK)  tried to see Vice-President Bawumia, but was not allowed.
An angry Ken Agyapong, has been expressing his displeasure to some of his party’s executives based in the UK over the matter.
Dr. Bawumia, who is reported to have suffered a heart attack and stroke in the early hours of last week Friday, was later rushed to London for medical treatment together with his wife, Samira Bawumia.
Kennedy Agyapong, is noted for his unregulated tongue, it appears the Bawumia family and aides, prevented him from seeing the Vice President for fear that he might go public with his medical condition to embarrass the Akufo-Addo government which has been controlling and massaging the situation.
The memorial service held at Redmond Community Center Kayani Ave, Woodberry Down, London N4 2HF, was dominated with discussions on Dr. Bawumia with many worried.
Others were worried about how the situation could disorganize the NPP as a party, the Akufo-Addo government and its economic policies.
Back home in Ghana, the issue has thrown the Flagstaff House, the government and the NPP into anxiety since last week Friday.
The entire country is also hoping for positive news on the health of the Vice President, since two hurriedly issued statements from the Flagstaff House on his condition and his emergency medical trip abroad after the sudden illness.
Although, government insiders have remained tightlipped on the actual status of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, heart attack and stroke, have severally been mentioned in certain circles as the reason for his emergency trip to London, late last Friday.
But The Herald’s information from family sources are that Dr. Bawumia collapsed at home Friday morning after suffering some dizziness.
The initial information on the former Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG) was that, he had been poisoned, this later changed to a stress related condition which led to cold and flu. But at the time of going to press, heart attack and stroke, had gained currency and taken the center stage.
There were also been reports that, Dr. Bawumia, had suffered neurological condition called Vertigo – caused by problems in certain parts of the brain. It leads to changes in head position, such as tipping the head up or down. At serious rate, a sufferer frequently falls as a result of dizziness, spinning sensation, lightheadedness, unsteadiness, loss of balance and nausea.
It started with a statement from the presidency signed by Director of Communications, Eugene Arhin, saying that “the Vice President of the Republic, Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, in the early hours of Friday, 19thJanuary, 2018, reported feeling unwell. He was attended to by his doctors; and is currently undergoing medical tests and observation. Any further information will be duly communicated”.
Few hours later, came another report that, Dr. Bawumia, had been discharged by his doctors and gone home to rest.
Government insiders had told The Herald that, the Flagstaff House, was planning to release pictures of him having quality time with his children to indicate that his condition was getting better.
But by midday Saturday, came the most serious news that the renowned economist had been flown to a hospital in London – United Kingdom (UK) with his wife; Samira, obviously under emergency flight for proper medical checks in that country.
The green letter which was dated 19 January 2018, was this time signed by the Chief of Staff, Akosua Frema Osei-Opare, meaning at the time media houses were reporting that Dr. Bawumia had been discharged by his doctors and driven home to rest, he was actually on his way to London, due to the severity of his condition.
It said, “The Vice President Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, on Friday 19 January 2018, left Ghana for the United Kingdom for medical leave on the advice of his doctors. He was accompanied by 2nd Lady Hajia Samira Bawumia”.
Multiple sources, including family and friends, confirmed he collapsed at his Kanda home, having felt dizzy, while walking.
Ahead of the collapsing, his medical doctors had advised him many times to take a rest, but he declined the advice. He was also advised many times by President Akufo-Addo to rest and seek further treatment, but again he declined.
Additional reports available to The Herald is that the first letter issued by Mr. Arhin, was done under the instruction of  President Akufo-Addo, and that it was made against the will of Dr. Bawumia’s family.
Even close aides of Dr. Bawumia were also against the issuance of the statement revealing the state of the vice president’s health.
Indeed, until the unfortunate incident happened, Dr. Bawumia, had a good number of programmes planned for him, including a scheduled dinner with top officers of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), but this was canceled.
