-The team is currently in Congo to play CARA in the 2nd round of the CAF Confederation Cup
-After winning 1-0 in the 1st leg, Kotoko needs to avoid a two-goal defeat to progress to the next stage
Players and officials of Kumasi Asante Kotoko have been attacked by irate fans of CARA Club of Congo, YEN.com.gh can report.
Kotoko play CARA in the second leg of the CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round game on Wenesday, February 21.
As part of CAF regulations, Kotoko were to train on the pitch to be used for the game 24 hours before the match.
But according to information gathered by YEN.com.gh, supporters of CARA club invaded the pitch and prevented Kotoko from training.
As if the heckling on the pitch was not enough, the Congolese also stormed Kotoko's bus to stain it with pig waste and other stuff which rendered it unusable.
It only took the intervention of Ghana’s ambassador to Congo Atta Boafo to prevent the situation from degenerating.
Lawyer for Kotoko, Yaw Boafo, who confirmed the attack disclosed the club has written to CAF to sanction CARA club.
“The club's bus has been attacked and sprayed with dirty liquid substance by rampaging CARA fans. We are very surprised at what is happening here. It's disheartening. We have written to CAF",Lawyer Boafo reportedly told a Kumasi-based radio station.
Kotoko beat CARA by 1-0 in the first leg in Kumasi, squandering penalties in the process and will need to avoid a two-goal defeat to progress to the next stage.
